It goes without saying that high-quality ethernet cables are the core of networking. If anything goes wrong with your cable, the whole connectivity will be disrupted. Therefore, testing your ethernet cables bulk before installation comes in handy as doing so will keep uninvited errors at bay.

If the light of an Ethernet connector does not blink when you put an ethernet cable in it, it simply means there exists an issue with your cable. Likewise, if you regularly see pop-ups reading “no connection” or “connection is lost”, it means the framework of the ethernet link is facing some sort of issue that needs to be addressed on an immediate basis. In these scenarios, you have to make sure that you have connected the cables properly. However, if the connectivity continues to be disrupted regularly, it only points to one issue: running a harmed cable.

Luckily, there exists a test through which you can easily measure the quality of your Ethernet cables bulk. These measurements are as follow:

  • Measurements for connectivity problems
  • Measurements for continuity problems
  • Measurements for performance problems

So, let’s discuss each one of these in detail.

Measurements for connectivity problems:

Connectivity problems usually stem from a flaw in the ethernet cable itself or its associations at one or the flip side. A quick method to find out the connectivity issue is to push the faulty cable into a connector with a network gadget or PC. The socket gives the interface between the ethernet cable and the device or a PC. The adapters come with LED (light-emitting diode) lights that blink or shine to indicate that a standard network prevails and that the data is being transmitted smoothly. If the LED lights do not blink or shine, it means that there exists a connectivity issue; this issue may exist with your high-quality ethernet cable or the connector, or both.

Measurements for performance problems:

The performance issue is concerned with the extremely slow data transfer rates. Such issues stem from a twisted or a harmed ethernet cable. In the case of a twisted cable, all you need to do is simply untwist it. To investigate issues with the twisted ethernet cable, check your ethernet cable thoroughly to find any wrinkles, sharp curves, or twists. However, if the issue persists, then you have no other choice but to replace the older cable with a new one.

In the case of a faulty cable, your only choice is to replace it as soon as possible with the new one.

Measurements for Continuity Problems

The continuity problems stem from both twisted/faulty/broken cables or faulty connectors. However, the presence of items such as clips, nails, or a piece of the tail may also cause these problems. These things are a source of solid EMI (electromagnetic presence) and may also cause physical damage to your high-quality ethernet cables; the continuity issues stemming from these problems can be addressed simply by removing these items and placing them far from the ethernet cables.

If for any reason whatsoever, you are unable to outwardly analyze your ethernet cable for continuity problems, you need not worry as there is an electronic gadget that has been specially designed for this purpose.

Still, facing problems?

Then, it is for sure that an issue exists with your local area network. There are chances that either one or more components of your LAN (such as routers, switches, connectors e.t.c) have caught a fault. To address these issues, you have to perform various tests to find out and replace the faulty component.
