Different Types and Applications of Fiber Optic Cables Connectors

Fiber optic connectors are an integral part of any Fiber Optic Cable. These connectors are good for Remateable connections. You can use fiber optic connectors for flexibility and termination.

There are many types of connectors and each of them has different benefits and applications. In this article, we’ll talk about various kinds of connectors and their benefits.

Non-Polished & Non-Epoxy Fiber optic Connectors

These connectors have a simple design and low cost. These features reduce installation and training costs as well. LC, ST, SC, FC, and MT-RJ are some of these connectors. You can use these connectors in telecommunications equipment, data lines, and other industrial fields. Most of these connectors have been extensively used in the past. Some of these connectors will have a great impact on the future as well.

Polished & Epoxy Connectors

The main purpose of these connectors was termination. Some of them are still in play. These connectors have a wide range like SC, ST, LC, FC, SMA, and MU. Sturdiness is one of the main benefits of these connectors. They can tolerate environmental and mechanical stress. They can handle single and multiple cables as well.

Polished & Non-Epoxy Connectors

One of the major benefits of these connectors is that they are easy to install. If you don’t have a certain level of skill set, you can still handle these connectors. We can further divide these connectors into two categories; Connectors without epoxy and Connectors with preloaded epoxy. These fiber optic connectors also stabilize fiber cable with their internal crimp mechanism. SC, ST, and FC are some of these connectors.

Different Fiber Optic Connecters

SC or Standard Connectors–These connectors are simple and rugged. They also have a low cost which can reduce installation costs as well. This connector features a 2.5mm ceramics ferrule. They come with an easy push-pull lock system.

LC or Lucent Connectors – LC connectors have a ferrule of 1.25mm. This Rj45 connector is a smaller version of the standard connector. With RJ style latch lock system, these connectors provide durable connections.

ST or Straight Tip Connectors – these connectors have a bayonet lock system. This lock system is ideal against all the pulls in installations. ST connector has also a 2.5mm ceramic ferrule.
