Identifying the right ethernet cable for your network - complete guide

Bulk Ethernet Cables come in a wide array of categories and generations. Each category differs from the other and within each category, there are several types. So, if you don’t have any prior knowledge about ethernet network cables, it becomes immensely difficult to differentiate between all the types and pick the perfect one for your network. But you need not worry as we have got you covered; all you need to do is to stay with us for the next few minutes.

Cat5e Ethernet Network Cables

The Cat5e is a fifth-generation enhanced ethernet cable that supports high-speed applications. The cable is available in plenum, riser, and PVC.

Plenum-rated or CMP-rated bulk ethernet cables are specifically designed for use in high-risk and vulnerable plenum spaces of the buildings. The jackets of the plenum cables enjoy the highest rating and are fire and UV-resistant. When exposed to fire, these ethernet cables emit no toxicity such as smoke or perilous gases.

The riser variant of the Cat5e ethernet network cables comes with a riser-rated thick jacket. As the name suggests, this cable is run in vertical or riser spaces of the buildings. The cable, too, enjoys excellent crosstalk and electromagnetic interference features. The riser variant emits very low smoke and no hazardous gases at all when it comes in contact with fire. The cable is UV-resistant, too.

PVC Cat5e cable is used for installation in the outdoor installation and its outer jacket has top-notch protection against sunlight and chemicals.

When it comes to the inner structure of the Cat5e ethernet network cables, it consists of 8 conductors bundled together in four twisted pairs. The conductors are made up of the following types of material:

  • Pure Copper
  • Copper Clad Aluminum

It supports a data transfer speed of up to 1 Gbps over a distance of 50 meters or 164 feet. When the length of the cable run is increased to 100 meters, the data transfer speed plummets to 100 Mbps. The fifth category cable enjoys a bandwidth capacity of 350 MHz whereas it meets and exceeds all standards such as FCC, CE, CSE, ISO/IES, and is in complete compliance with RoHS. Being a bulk cable, it comes in 1000ft length and in easy-to-pull packaging.

For installation in the harshest environments, the cable is available in shielded versions where an extra foil sheet is wrapped around all 4 twisted pairs.

Cat6 Ethernet Network Cables

The Cat6 Ethernet network cables are 6th generation ethernet cables that provide super-fast data transfer speed of up to 10 Gbps over a distance of 50 meters and 1 Gbps up to a distance of 100 meters. As we manufacture ethernet cables that exceed all industry standards, it comes up with an industry above bandwidth capacity of 550 MHz.

The sixth category cable is available in plenum, riser, PVC, and direct burial jackets. As far as conductors are concerned, they either come up in pure copper or copper-clad aluminum and in 4 twisted pairs.

Cat6a Ethernet network cables

This is the augmented sixth-generation Ethernet Network Cables designed to support high-speed applications with a data transfer speed of 10 Gbps over a length of 100 meters. The cable comes with a bandwidth capacity of 750 MHz and in pure copper and copper-clad aluminum conductors.

It is available in plenum, riser, PVC, and direct burial variants. The cable meets and exceeds all the industry standards.
